The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) required the expertise of an experienced contractor to deliver centralized project management (PM) standards and support to improve the PM integration governing over 250 nuclear facilities. The NRC was experiencing inconsistencies across its PM initiatives and recognized the necessity to establish more consistent and repeatable methods with reporting to reduce the risk of project failures and to improve the agency knowledge management.

XA Systems services supported The NRC Center for Planning and Analysis (CPA) with best practices and process based consulting services designed to improve the accuracy and quality of their project management operations.

XA Systems provided project management expertise designed to reinforce continuous program and project quality, which included the following:

PROJECT MANAGEMENT. Our personnel worked with the leadership at CPA to deliver consulting services to create processes and standards templates for use by all NRC program and project stakeholders. There were several activities necessary to establish a quality based set of project management life cycle standards. Our team utilized practices and guidelines from both PMBOK and the ITIL Framework to establish project compliance standards, reporting and processes for use by its project management personnel agency wide. The outputs of our services served as the baseline for existing and future project management initiatives and were incorporated into the agencies project management approach. During the engagement we delivered the following additional support:

  • Developed and Maintained Project Schedules
  • Detailed Project Plan Statuses and Metrics for ongoing CPA Reviews
  • Integration of NRC’s PM Change Management Plan
  • Established NRC’s Enterprise Project Management Infrastructure

CUSTOMER LIAISON SUPPORT. From contract start, our Project Managers established communication plans and addressed the needs of a wide range of business requirements. We performed liaison activities that resulted in continuous meetings to provide guidance and to train agency stakeholders to deliver analysis and conduct business reviews with the operation’s lines of businesses. The result was establishing the appropriate integration of NRC’s PM lifecycle approach.

DOCUMENTATION AND TECHNICAL WRITING. XA Systems supported NRC in their efforts to develop, edit and maintain accurate accounts of project/program activities and contract performance data. Our solution incorporated, but was not limited to the following:

  • Implementation of the MS/ Enterprise Project Management Software
  • Consistent Status Reporting
  • Developing Process Flows
  • Establishing and Implementing SOP’s and Change Management processes
  • Providing Process/Project Plans, Inventory & Problem Analysis Reports with change management procedures
